Wagner Wins in 305 Sprints at Path Valley
Mike Wagner roared out of seventh place to duel Craig Laudermilch and take the lead on lap 15 and then the win in the 305 Sprints Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park. Sean McAndrews led all the way for the 270 Sprints win and Jake Murphy worked hard for the win in the 600 Sprints while Tim Mertz was awarded the win in the Sidewinders.
Mike Brindle of Shippensburg won his first Path Valley feature in the Thunder Cars and Ricky Harper continued his winning ways with a victory in the Mini Stocks.
Starting the month of August on a hot track Path Valley announced a $500 to win feature for the 600 Sprints next Friday night, August 1 sponsored by Two Wheel Promotions on Juniata Beverage Night. The August heat continues on August 22 with the Wes Scofield Memorial paying $500 to win in both the Mini Stocks and the Thunder Cars. Path Valley has also announced a major schedule change in September. The dates for the Eighth Annual Sprints National and the Eighth Annual 4-Cylinder Shootout have been switched. The Sprints National will be on August 27 and the 4-Cylinder Shootout will be on August 20 to accommodate better the needs of the drivers and teams.
Craig Laudermilch led the 305 Sprints by a full turn by lap nine and by a lap 14 restart Mike Wagner had advanced from seventh to second. As the race went wide open Wagner pulled alongside Laudermilch on lap 15 and finally completed a pass to the inside at the finish of lap 16. Wagner then dashed non stop to the win by more than a full turn ahead of Laudermilch and then Alan Kumpf, George Riden and Michael Heckman in the front five. Wagner and Mike Freet won the heat races and the crash of the night came in the second heat race when Jim Kennedy dived low inside turn two and found Brandt already there. Kennedy went onto Brandt’s wheel and spread parts of his #7 up and down the turn in a series of flips.
Jake Murphy and Tyler DeVault swapped the lead twice in the first seven laps of the 600 Sprints but, after a lap seven restart Murphy led the rest of the way to the checkers. Jim Brookens started 22 in the full field and advanced as far as third by lap 17 but stuck amid lapped traffic. The front five finishers were Murphy, DeVault, Brookens, Kevin Steele, and Rodney Glass and the heat winners were DeVault, Glass and Murphy.
Tim Mertz was awarded the Sidewinders win after Ryan Greth disqualified by forgetting to go to technical inspection. The front five were Mertz, Jason Morrison, Stanley Fleming, Rohan Beasley, and Tyler DeVault. Beasley won the single heat race.
Sean McAndrews and Sean Good raced one and two all 20 laps in the 270 Sprints, but Good never found a line to pass McAndrews. At the finish the front five were McAndrews, Good, Ryan McAndrews, Bryan Hart and Steve Whary. Good and Sean McAndrews won the heats.
Ricky Harper passed Gary Dehart on lap seven and led all the way to win his feature in the Mini Stocks. The front five finishers were Harper, Dehart, Jeremy Ott, Frank Gordon and Gary Newell and the heat winners were Gordon and Dehart. After two bad starts Mike Brindle had the Thunder Car lead at the finish of lap one and took over from Tom Crum on lap three to lead all the way to the checkered flag. The front five in Thunder Cars were Brindle, Lyle Barnes, Terry Smith, Tom Crum and Mark Grove and the heat winners were Brindle and RT Bolger.
