July 25th Path Valley.. Mertz takes the win, Greth finishes first ????

On a perfect summer night, it looks like most of the Sidewinder teams decided it was a perfect time to hit the beach for their annual vacation. With the lowest car count in over a year, the view from the penalty box for the previous Path Valley winner, Tim Mertz looked a lot better than normal. This time Tim was able to start 6th instead of the regular penalty of 12th.

Tim didn’t have it all his own way however. Ryan Greth blasted away from his pole starting position to lead all of the 20 laps, however due to the extra pressure of racing two classes, Ryan left victory lane and headed straight to the tech area without going over the scales and unfortunately the penalty for not weighing is disqualification.

This unfortunate chain of events handed the win to Tim Mertz. Mertz had sped from his 6th place starting position to challenge Greth for the lead on the last lap, but was unable to pass Greth and crossed the line in 2nd.

Later when informed of the victory, Tim was shocked and somewhat disappointed in the situation since he was relishing the super tight points battle with Ryan for the coveted Hyper Cup. If any good news can come from this type of situation, it was that with such a small car count, Greth’s standings in the points chase did not receive to much damage as he was still credited with a 6th place finish and the associated points and now finds himself having to chase down Tim’s 18 point lead.

After the shock of then win set in, Tim had this to say, “ It’s a bad deal all round when this type of incident occurs. I am having a blast racing Ryan every week, especially with the points being so close and I realize every position counts. That said, I am very glad that Ryan was awarded 6th place points. It keeps him in the hunt, and helps keep the pressure on me which in turn makes the racing that much more enjoyable. I have to give a lot of thanks to our team made up of, Dad, Ron and Joe. None of this would be possible without the support of Mertz's Moving, Allison Door Sales, Guhl Motors and RTS chassis.”

This Weeks Question;

Q. Now that Sean Campbell has taken his Henchcraft into victory lane in 2008, can the 2007 Sidewinder Sprints champion, Donnie Hendershot prove that his Henchcraft is still the car to beat at Path Valley this week?

A. Donnie was looking good in the heat race until his engine let go going down the back straight. Team Hendershot assured everyone that they would be back out in two weeks and even have a second car coming out with an unnamed mystery driver.

Next Weeks Questions;

Q. Young James Shaw has been very impressive in the last few weeks at TW. Can James hold on this week for a break through win ?
