Smith Outruns Fedder in Path Valley Late Models
Tim Smith led every lap of the Late Model feature on Juniata Beverage Night Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park with Tim Fedder less than a car length behind him.
Randy Kissinger came out of sixth place for his first Path Valley Legends win of the season and Jimmy Brookens won in the 600 Sprints while Steve Whary won the 270 Sprints feature. In the Mini Stocks Ricky Harper passed every car in the field for his win and Lyle Barnes won in the Thunder Cars.
Next Friday night, August 8, will feature the full size PA 305 Sprints and the Sidewinders. Two Wheel Promotions has announced three major schedule changes that finalize the Path Valley fall schedule. The Eight Annual All Sprints National will be held Oct. 11, and the Four-Cylinder Shootout will be Sept. 20. To close out the schedule changes, the Strictly Stock Showdown will be Sept. 27 and will include a mechanic’s race and a powder puff for the ladies.
After caution flags on the first two laps, Tim Smith led Tim Fedder by a length or less until he got into lapped cars to lengthen his lead on lap eight. After a lap 11 restart regrouped the field Smith continued to lead on three wheels with Fedder right behind and at the finish the front five were Smith, Fedder, Jerry Bard, Shaun Jones and Matt Parks. Smith and Fedder won the two heat races.
The McAndrews brothers and Steve Whary raced nose to tail in the 270 Sprints and at the finish Whary could not be caught. Sean McAndrews charged out of last place to take over second place from his brother Ryan on lap 14, but could not catch Whary. The front five were Whary, Sean McAndrews, Ryan McAndrews, Jason Houtz and Kameron Morral, and the heat winners were Morral and Ryan McAndrews.
Lyle Barnes and Jeremy Ott raced side by side for the first three laps of the Thunder Car feature but then Whary took the lead and by lap eleven was more than a turn ahead. Barnes moved into lapped car traffic in the big field on lap 15 and soon after took his first Path Valley win of the season. The front five finishers were Barnes, Ott, Terry Smith, Ken Lawrence Jr. and Denny Scofield and the heat winners were Mark Grove and Lawrence.
Brian Levan led the first 13 laps of the Legends Cars feature from his pole start but then spun a 360 out of turn four in lap 14’s restart and drifted broken to a stop on lap 15. That handed the lead to Randy Kissinger who had carefully worked his way into second from a sixth place start. Meanwhile, to bring out the red flag on lap 14 Brian Weitzel hit the rear of a stalled Lucas Montgomery on the middle of the backstretch and went airborne to come to rest on all four wheels atop the backstretch wall under the scoreboard. Kissinger proved uncatchable to take his first Path Valley win this season followed in the front five by Jason Rochelle, Geremey Sheaffer, Greg Burd and Scott Houdeshell. The heat winners were Sheaffer and Rochelle.
Jimmy Brookens came from third to take the lead on the first lap of the 600 Sprints feature and lead all the way to the finish. Except for lapped cars Kevin Steele held onto second all the way from lap two and at the finish the balance of the front five were Keith McIntyre, Dwayne Gutshall and Dane Delancey. Delancey, Tyler Walton and Brookens won the heat races.
The big stock car thrill of the night was in the Mini Stocks as Ricky Harper charged out of last place to pass Tim Burkholder for the lead on the inside of turn three on lap ten. From there to the finish Harper easily led with Gary Dehart, Tim Burkholder, Gary Hendershot and Frankie Gordon filling out the front five. Harper and Gary Newell won the heat races.
