Does anyone know of any discussion forums that talk about car setups,engines,tires,shocks...etc? I am new to this type of racing and I have found it extremely hard to find much on Quarter Midgets at all. I have the Stevie Smith book to try and help learn but would rather discuss with people because books don't talk back. Thanks for any guidance.

I have also noticed that not much is avalible for the quarter midgets. I know that Hyper Racing has been involved with a new quarter midget program. Check out there site. We are planning on doing some tech/set-up articles on this site soon and hope to get some info on the quarter midgets.

Thanks Jason, I will check it out. I knew Hyper dealt with Mini Sprints and bigger but had never seen anything with QM in there catalog.

I recommend you find someone at your club with a Stanley and talk to them. Everyone(just about everyone) in quartermidgets will be helpful. Most of the time the guy you bought the car from will help with set-up. If you come to Oaklane for the 2011 Grands, look me up and just ask for Toeknee! Good Luck racin!

I am good friends with the guy I bought it from. I was just hoping there was a forum kinda similar to Bob's 4cycle for quarter midgets. We had been in karts for 5 yrs and you couldn't spit in a direction without hitting a site with information on chassis, motors, tires and whatever else you could dream of. Hopefully someone might support the development of a forum like that.

Quartermidgets are such a small percentage of youth racing compared to Karts that you will find alot less mass produced info and parts. Help from local parts vendors and people you race with is your best bet. Every chassis and track are different so tough to have a general set-up published. I know, the live suspension (shocks/springs) has your karting mind confused.....LOL

Actually the spring/shocks isn't that confusing compared to clutch and gear setup on karts. I raced a few years back and have pitted for several Street Stock teams, a Limited Latemodel team and Modified team.

If you are running Topeka just ask and anyone will help you. If Earl Wilcox is still running at Topeka as he runs Stanley and will be very helpful. Most all QMA guys are helpful. Good Luck, I would offer more help but we run Storms, also contacting Stanley as they should give you a base line set-up for your track & class. Plan to make the 2011 Grands at Oaklane in PA!

As several people have already mentioned, your best bet since you already have a car would be contacting Stanley (http://www.robbiestanleyracing.com). Looks like they are in the middle of new site design so most of the links don't work, but their phone number is (704) 782-6539. They should have some basic set up for that track as I believe the Grands were held there a few years ago (2002?) . If not, contact you're club's novice director Topeka QMA (http://www.topekaqma.org). He should have some basic information as far as gearing and such to get you started. As a novice, the most important part is getting seat time and making the driver comfortable in the car.
As far as discussion forums, quartermidgets.org, the official QMA site has a forum section. Unfortunately, in order to see the posts you must be registered, and in order to register you have to be a QMA member. If you have already joined and payed your fees, you should get a QMA card with a number on it that you can use to register.
Also, the USAC site (http://www.usacracing.com) has forums with a fairly active quarter midget section. I'm sure someone over there has raced at your track and will be able to help you as well.
Also, a guy named Steve Clark wrote a pretty nice handbook for novice handlers to learn some of the basics. You can find it here (hhttp://www.alqma.com/novicehandbook%5B1%5D.pdf). While I don't agree with EVERYTHING he has in there, it's a great in depth guide to gain some knowledge on the sport, the cars, the maintanence, etc. If you have any other questions, feel free to post here as well. It would be nice to get this section of microracing.com a little more action.

Thanks to everyone for your advice and guidance. I have the Novice book printed off, the Steve Smith book is next to my bed...lol. Its just suprises me that Quarter Midgets didn't have a forum following. I have been to Stanley's site several times in the past few months and th site had been basically down. Its just that I am part of several facebook quarter midget groups so I know the interest and involvement is there. Actually since I started this topic this is the most activity that I have seen in this part of the forum boards and that is a great start.

Yeah I'm not really sure why there isn't a big forum for quarter midgets. There used to be a very good Yahoo E-Mail group several years ago. Unforuntaley they usually end up being a complaining contest for the parents, and not much useful information gets shared.
As far as a pit cart, it really all depends on what you are looking for. Places obviously sell some really nice ones with shelves, a tire rack, etc, and others use wagons and carts from Home Depot or Lowes. If you are building one for yourself, you can build it to fit your own height; most are about waist high to have easy acces for working, but some are smaller due to trailer height limits, etc. They are usually just slightly wider than the frame of the chassis, and about as long as the wheelbase. Whatever you do, make sure you get larger size, rubber tires. Small, plastic tires won't roll well in any gravel or dirt pit areas.

We got our new pit cart yesterday so thats out of the way. The list of needs is getting smaller each day.

Well it seems this post is kinda dying out after great run. I hope it picks back again since the race season has started for some and will start soon for others.
