Ryan Frable Sweeps Wyalusing Valley 600cc Micro Mains!

600cc Microsprint racer Ryan Frable first laid eyes on the Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park back on July 20th, turning a few laps in practice and running his heat race prior to rains that forced postponement of the $600-to-win 600 Shootout. At the time, it's likely he never expected to have a day like he did Sunday at “The Nightmare of the Northern Tier”.

Bob Azarowicz led the field to the line in the 600 Shootout in his National Guard #7, taking command from the drop of the green and pulling away from Frable, as he worked to hold off challenges from point leader Parker Evans. Azarowicz again opened up a slight lead following a lap 16 restart, with Frable still holding a few car length advantage over Evans as the cars behind them battled for position. Azarowicz saw his strong run come to an end when his machined slowed on the frontstretch, bringing out the second and final caution of the race. Frable got a great jump on the restart and went on for the big win. Evans, who finished second ahead of Ryan Hook, revealed after the race that he had not noticed the caution lights were out and the corner flagger's signal that the race was going green. Jared Hook and Cole Reigle rounded out the top 5.

In the day's regularly scheduled 600 feature, Frable led wire to wire in a cautionless event, holding off Ryan Hook, Evans, Reigle, and Jared Hook, who completed the top 5.

Bob Maynard appeared to have his bad luck behind him in the 270's, leading from the drop of the green and opening up a fair advantage over Jordan Tittle. The monkey on his back returned on lap 12 when his #29 slowed in turn two with drivetrain problems. Tittle inherited the lead and went on to score his 4th win of 2008 over Steve Earnest, Tim Quinter, Larry Hoagland, and Mark Wurzler in the top 5.

In kart racing, Casey Steinhoff took the Purple win over Jared Zionkowski, Dom Rogers, Kara Chapman, and Hayden Baumunk. Dayton Cote took Novice Blue with Alex Shaffer just a car length back in 2nd, ahead of Calvin Halm, Skylar Middendorf, and Cam Ayres. Jay Adams returned to victory lane in Jr. Gold ahead of Jake Maynard and Shelby Halm.

SportKIDS also found Adams taking the checkers, ahead of Brianna Baumunk, Maynard, Nick Funk, and Collin Hadlock. SportsWOMAN honors went to Heather Hadlock over Karen Baumunk, while Matt Roberts won SportsMAN, besting Dustin, Cody, and Oscar Fassett.

Lights action saw Tyler Chapman taking the win as Kecia Wilkins won a tough battle with younger sister Kayla Wilkins, with Paul Krambo and Rick Hoyt.

The mediums feature was a very competitive event, with several drivers looking to de-throne undefeated Tyler Chapman. Dylan Maynard settled into 2nd at the drop of the green, but brother Dalton Maynard slipped past on lap 3 and began to pressure Chapman. A caution on lap 7, and another on lap12 kept the field running very close. Dalton Maynard slipped past Chapman on lap 13, but couldn't make the pass stick and Chapman regained the lead on lap 14 and went on to win. Dylan Maynard was also able to slip past for 2nd. Dalton Maynard, Brian Mroz (who started scratch in the borrowed machine of Kayla Wilkins after blowing an engine crossing the checkers with the heat win) in 4th and Kyle Johnson in 5th.

Brian Halm picked up his first win, taking the heavy feature after fending off race long pressure from Harry “Beaver” Ely. Greg Stevens, Keith Atkinson, and Matt Hoyt filled out the top 5.

Derek Chapman in Adult Caged and Rich Howard Jr. in the Slingshots were each credited with wins as they were solo entries in their divisions. The 125cc Micros were scheduled to appear, but no racers attended. As a result, all 125cc Micro events scheduled during 2008 have been cancelled.

This Sunday will see a regular show, along with Race 2 of the WVMP “Fountain of Youth” Jr. Slingshot Series and the make-up 270cc Micro feature from 7/20. In an effort to get more Slingshot racers to try out the Wyalusing Valley facility, MEI Smallcar has issued this challenge. If there are 10 or more regular slingshots entered this week, MEI will pay $25 to each of the top 5 finishers. This will be added to the track's normal purse.

The track has been very smooth and the rcaing has been great! Come on out this Sunday to the “Nightmare of the Northern Tier” for some fast family fun! For more information, visit the track's website at www.wvmpracing.com!
