Racing for the Hoosier Tire 600 mods is going to get as hot as the month of August. Doug Borger, series owner and founder, has added shows for the rest of the 2008 season. He states “ With the increase in car counts this year, we have been invited to some of the premiere year end finales at different tracks. Some of the features have been increased to thirty laps. Our average car count per show has been thirty five cars and people are starting to notice. We run our own shows which helps the tracks complete their programs by a reasonable time. The series drivers look forward to ending this season with some great racing with the schedule that’s been lined up”.
First on tap will be the ever popular Thunder on the Hill show on Aug. 12th at Grandview Speedway. The top twenty in car owner points will make an appearance for a 25 lap showdown. What makes this show unique is the format for the night. Starting the night will be a pair of hot laps sessions so the drivers and crew can dial in the car and then right to the feature. The other twist for the night is the top ten will be inverted for the starting grid. Some of the drivers you will see will be local favorite Mike Keppler, Butch Getz, Nick and Brian Mady, Tyler Bartik, Brad Szulewski and Grandview’s modifed hot shoe Doug Manmiller. The series will then return on Aug. 16th and Aug. 23rd . You can check out all the results on the Xcel Chassis website at www.xcelchassis.com or www.grandviewspeedway.com.
Next up will be a return to Kutztown Fairgrounds on Aug. 14th.. Drivers look forward to the bullring style racing. Mike Pychinka, driver of the #55, considers Kutztown one of his favorite tracks. He added, “With the tight door to door racing you really have to use your head and your brakes thru the whole race”.
The month of September will start off with The King of the Can weekend scheduled for Sept. 13th and 14th. The 600 mods will be making an appearance on Saturday with the feature increased to thirty laps . You can visit Penn Can’s website at www.penncan.com for more information.
Thunder Mountain Speedway, located in Lisle,Ny. will play host for the 600 modifeds on Sat. Sept. 27th. Promoters Dick and Shelley Stark have a full card scheduled for the weekend. The Stark Family works hard all year to lead up to the Hurricane Memorial weekend and puts a great show together for drivers and fans. Look for a 30 lapper for the 600 modifeds along with a full weekend of racing. Sirectios can be obtained by visiting their website at www.thunderracetrack.com.
The Hoosier Tire 600 modifeds along with Five Mile Point Speedway will end their seasons on the same weekend. On tap will be the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend. The racing action will begin on Oct.24th and finish on Oct.25th. This is considered one of the biggest year end shows of the year. On card for the 600 modifieds will be a full feature 20 lapper reschuled from a previos date along with a full program run the same night. Check out their website, www.fivemilepointspeedway.net for results and news.
Keep an eye out for upcoming events concerning the Hoosier Tire 600 modified awards banquet along with announcements for the 2009 season.

A short while ago, I was informed by one of the 600 Modified drivers that the 600 Modifieds would not be racing at OCFS on 9/6. Then, last Saturday, it was announced, at OCFS, over the PA system, that they would be there on 9/6. A phone call, by me - to Doug Borger to confirm - either way, backed the fact that, due to safety conerns, the 600 Modifieds will NOT be at OCFS on 9/6. That info was required by me for my weekly column on up-coming events, so my information is accurate.

Today, this press release was sent out by OCFS:

"On Saturday, September 6, the 305 sprint cars of the Capital Region Sprint Car Agency (CRSA) take to the Middletown five-eighths-mile Hard Clay track, a makeup date for August 2 race meet that was rained out. The 600 Modifieds and a “Festival of Crashes” demolition derby are also on the evening’s program. Planet Wings (sprint cars) and Chet’s Garage (Festival of Crashes) are the night’s co-sponsors."

The 600 Modifieds are not listed on OCFS's website schedule, but are listed in the racing program, athough it's listed as "Tentative". OCFS, for 9/6 has been listed on the 600 Modifieds website as a date, though. Perhaps it should be removed?

I've contacted OCFS on this, and do not expect a response from them, though.
