Garlock and Moore Win Firsts at Path Valley
Rance Garlock in the big fast Late Models and Shawn Moore in the high tech Mini Stocks won their first features of the season Friday night on Melvin’s Auto Repair Race Night at the Path Valley Speedway Park.
Jake Murphy outran Jimmy Brookens in the 600 Sprints and Geremey Sheaffer raced out of an eighth place start to win in the Legends Cars. The close and wild racing in the 270 Sprints went to winner Brian Marriott while Denny Scofield held off all pursuers in the Thunder Cars.
In the Pennsylvania State Police special that hallmarks Melvin’s Race Nights, Trooper Scott Dowlin was the alleged winner by less than a car length through ten spinning and sliding laps with accomplices Troopers Greg Stayer, Don Beynon, James Adams and Nathan Swank close behind him. With prizes for virtually everyone and a Candy Scramble for the kids, this was the eighth year Bigler has sponsored a special race night and he said it was a “terrific” night of fast and clean racing with no problems to speak of. The racetrack, challenged by rain for many weeks, may have been in the best condition ever.
Next Friday night, August 22, will feature the Back to School Special with the Sidewinders and the full size economy 305 Sprints headlining the races.
Geremey Sheaffer from eighth place worked his way through the INEX Legends Cars to take over second place on lap 15 and then race side by side with leader Nathan Fisher until lap 18 when he managed to slide to the inside around turn four and take the lead. A final lap caution gave Fisher a last chance but Sheaffer pulled away on the front stretch for his win. Sheaffer, Fisher, Andy Lupfer, Jason Ewing and Justin Grim were the front five finishers and Sheaffer and Grim won the heats.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. From March to October, Path Valley races stock cars and sprints Friday nights and AMA bikes or Strictly Stock junkyard cars Saturday nights.
