June 7, 2008 – Hamlin Speedway – Slingshot, 270cc Micros, & Nascar Results:

June 7, 2008 – The Nascar Crew Challenge, TNT, 2 thunderstorms, and perseverance brought exciting times to the always competitive Hamlin Speedway!

A demonstration of “Never Say Die” by the Hamlin staff resulted in an action packed night of racing and celebrity autographs! DMI Manufacturing sponsored the night with EBU giveaways with an Orange County Chopper on display. It was a night to remember with special thanks to the 270cc micro sprints for stepping up to the plate to help run-in the track! The TNT production of Hamlin Speedway aired during the Pocono pre-race show! It was awesome!

The Regular Slingshots, with 29 entries, wowed the crowd with a 35-lap feature on non-stop racing! Coming from the 6th starting position the #13x of ‘Flip’ Whitaker raced his way to the front capturing his 2nd feature win of 2008! Finishing 2nd with heated competition from behind was the #1 of Billy Weaver with #23 of Shannon Smith in 3rd. Fourth place was #23c of Billy Clark with #55r of Ryan Wood in 5th. Rounding out the top 10 was #59 of Cody Kline in 6th, #5s of Dale Kober in 7th, #551 of Simon Egan in 8th, #57 of Mark Berkenstock in 9th, and #12 of Marc Daniels in 10th.

In the 270cc micro sprint division the #88 of Nick Skias found his way to victory circle again in 2008! Starting on the pole – Skias never looked back even with the hard charging #94 of Matt Mountz coming from the 7th starting spot to finish 2nd. Coming home 3rd was the #10 of Mark Gilmore with #83 of Nunzi Allegrucci in 4th. The #7 of Rick Casario took home 5th with #11H of Todd Hanlin in 6th. Rounding out the top 10 was the #24 of Bill Darcy in 7th, #40 Jeff Wilson in 8th, #94x of Alan Kellog in 9th, and #7c of Jamie Czekai in 10th.

The Junior Slingshots found the #2 of Brittany Tresch dominate the race from the pole position earning her 1st checkers of 2008! Chasing the young lady was the #27 of Jacob Hendershot finishing 2nd with the #12 of Mikey Horton in 3rd. Finishing 4th was the #97j of Justin Brewster earning the Hard Charger coming from the 9th starting spot. Coming home 5th was the newcomer to Hamlin #14 of Ryan Snyder with #93 of Jason West in 6th. Rounding out the top 10 was the #51b of Molly Chambers in 7th, #15 of Cait Chambers in 8th, #6 of Colin White in 9th, and #1 of Shelby Ogozaly in 10th.

The Super Slingers! Found the return of the #5s of Dale Kober in victory lane coming from the outside pole. Finishing 2nd was the #707 of Charlie Bodine with the #50 of Carl Bittenbender in 3rd. The #87 of Bob Clark finished 4th with #5 of Paul Ennes in 5th.

The always-exciting “Nascar Crew Challenge” took place following interviews with Sean Kerlin - #48 team, Aaron Kuehn - #24 team, and Ron Malec - #48 team, and an autograph session for the fans in the concession area. Also in attendance were Joe Nemechek and his son John. They came to Hamlin to see the slingshots and are considering a return in August. A total of 11 Nascar competitors hit the track with total fan support! Winning heat #1 was the #327 of Ron Malec with the #23 of Aaron Kuehn in 2nd. Heat #2 was won by #39 of Sean Kerlin with the #51b of Gene Pasquade in 2nd. The feature lineup, with an inversion re-draw put the #23 of Aaron Kuehn on the pole with #39 of Sean Kerlin on the outside. In the Collins-owned #39 slingshot – Sean Kerlin jumped into the lead and to earn his 3rd victory circle visit since 2003! Coming home 2nd for the 2nd time was the #23 of Aaron Kuehn, with #327 of Ron Malec in 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 was #50 of Jeremy Sharpley and #13x of Kirk George in 5th. The Nascar Crew Challenge will return to Hamlin Speedway on August 2nd.

Hamlin Speedway is closed on Saturday 6/14/08 and will reopen on 6/21/08 with the special event of the “Briggs Stock Medium Challenge, $500 to win” with all divisions racing.
