• Proposed change: TO ALLOW ANY MECHANICAL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM

Benefits of this system:

• Less wiring means less problems = less DNF’s

• Not as fragile as EFI (i.e. clogged injectors)

• Owner able to tune- is not a must for a dyno run to be racing

• Fuel pump shuts off when motor dies ….in case of wreck you do not have an electric pump spraying 60 psi of fuel into fire

• Cost is cheaper and can be as little as $1000.00 to as much as $3500.00

• Very little maintenance and parts to break

• No risk of an injector sticking closed or open and causing a motor to hydro lock or lean out and damaging motor, which costs more to rebuild

• No sensors to fail

• No injectors to replace

• No ECU tuning or add on “Power Commander” type extras

• No re-mapping for equipment changes such as exhaust or “latest map of month”

• Technology has been around for over 40 years and is a standard in midget and sprint car racing

ACTUAL RULE TO BE VOTED ON:

• This system would include the complete use of a typical mechanical fuel injection system not limited of throttle bodies in any form as it be deemed for use in the system

• This WOULD NOT be required utilize any of the “FACTORY EFI SYSTEM” (i.e. efi throttle bodies, sensors, air box, wiring)

• This would require the ability to remove stock water pump and use location for mechanical fuel pump and using an external water pump. In the past the fuel pump was run off the cam and can still be done but there was issues of premature cam wear and leaking valve covers Thus making it not suitable.

• The rev-limit issue would fall under the same rules as carb systems do (as per current U6SA rules)

• Any amount of nozzles could be utilized.

• Any factory electrics may be used (if it’s Yamaha it must use Yamaha electrics)

• Any air cleaner system would be allowed (R2C, K&N, ITG etc)

I actually just got to thinking about this.. Do the EFI coming off the bike come with 8 injectors?? If they only come with 4 injectors then why cant you run a mechanical fuel injection?

The rules allow any number of injectors regardless of year and manufacturer.

But yes, most all newer bikes have an 8 injector system...

I would suggest rewriting your draft into a format that coincides with the existing rules format.

For example:

• This WOULD NOT be required utilize any of the “FACTORY EFI SYSTEM” (i.e. efi throttle bodies, sensors, air box, wiring)

This should be written as:

9. Induction system
a) No mechanically forced induction (turbo charging, supercharging)
b) Any carburetors may be used on any engine, regardless of year of engine.
c) If the engine did not come from the factory with fuel injection, fuel injection may not be used.
d) If the engine came with factory fuel injection, the fuel injection may be used and may be
converted for use with alcohol. The stock fuel injection throttle bodies must remain, but may
be modified for use with alcohol. Any number of injectors may be used regardless of stock
number of injectors.

Change to read:

Any number of injectors may be used regardless of stock
number of injectors.
e) If the engine came with factory fuel injection, mechanical fuel injection may be substituted. Aftermarket throttle bodies, modification of the water pump for the mechanical fuel pump, and an aftermarket external water pump are permitted.

The remainder of your rule proposal is already covered by other sections of the existing rules. I'm also making the assumption that we would only be allowing the MFI on originally equipped EFI motors. That could obviously be edited to allow it on older engines as well. Additionally, I think it may be beneficial to add some other regulations such as maximum bore and length of the throttle bodies.

Thanks Mike.... I think Mr. Dicely is re-writing it to better cover all areas so there is no grays before it goes to a vote.

As far as the runner bore and length.... I don't know why it keeps coming up.... 1) because there is no rules on putting extensions in what you have now .....2) a motor can only take in so much air before it becomes a dog 3) these arent custom made runners its what is sold and publicly avail to anyone.... same with hilborne and kinsler... so to have a company custom make something out of the range of what they normally make would be cost prohibitive.... just seems like another way to keep Engler out of U6SA when I hear things like that...

Should we not allow custom RAM AIR boxes too and just use what came on bike?

We can think of a million details but at the end it comes down to driver and setup and if either is lacking doesn't matter whats under the hood...
