Hi,
My driver has always driven an RTS car . My Hyper she is driving this year shifts backwards from the RTS. I am in the middle of changing the pivot point from above the shifter mount to below the shifter mount. I was going to use one of their 600cc shifter handles that the cable below the shifter mounting point. Does anyone have any other ideas I can use ???
thanks,
George ( paperman77 )

I have only been racing for 3 years and all the shifters/shifter cable setup have been below the mounting point of the handle

Hi,
The Hyper 270 shifter mounts at the bottom of the handle. This makes shifting 1 up and 2,3,4,5, back as the cable is mounted above the handle mounting point.

would you be able to drill a hole futher up on the shifter handle lowering the bottom of the handle then mount the cable at the bottom changing the shift pattern. i could be wrong but my input

paperman so you are saying you have the cable itself above the mounting point right now? If you do and you have a hole in the bottom I would put it there as it would make 1st back and the rest forward

Hi,
The way the handle is mounted , there are no holes below the bottomhole that mounts the shifter handle to the frame. that hole has a has a spacer welded to it to space it out from the frame.
thanks

Some frames only allow the shifter to be used one way....because the mounting point for the shifter is aligned with the bracket to hold the cable.

If you have the room you can take the bracket on the motor and turn it 180 degrees and that will change the pattern without changing the shifter or cable mounting. I have a 2000 hyper and have the same scenario. I have thought about every possible way to change the pattern but this is all I can conclude to.

hey shawn, where did you route the shifter cable around the back? I hate having the shifter cable run across the belly pan of the car, it gets in the way and is not a very practical setup. anyone else have any tips? thanks

spend alot of money and get a air/hydrualic shift soleniod, and have push button shifting on the wheel. haha

never seen it on a micro, but they make the kits for dirtbikes and 4 wheelers

Where do you pick one of them up? Sounds cool, push button shifter on a Mirco... Be like IRL... lol...

those are 3 generic images i found online for i guess its called a kliktronic....But i believe i found one in the motosport or dennis kirk at work. Who knows...i was being ass when i mentioned the idea...i guess if ya dont like the shifter on the belly pan, mount the cable UNDER the belly pan, but it may drag and shorten the life of the cable. I dunno what else you can do really....

What i am going to do is this. I picked up a hyper 600 shifter . It uses the same size bolt tp bplt it to the chassis. It is the one for the cable mounted 600 shifters. The cable mounts below the bolt that bolts the shifter to the frame. This will reverse the pivot point for the shifter. I also bought a shifter cable mount that will need welded on the chassis about 4 " lower than the old one. This way you can always change the pattern back if you want to put the reg. shifter back on. I also noticed that the shifter cable will also line up with one tank mount bolt so I can probably bolt a motor shift tab to that bolt and be good to go.
Let me know if it sounds like it would work.
thanks

I was going to mention something like that... If it was my car I would fabricate a bracket so that it is how I liked it... I have a RTS car but have some Hyper parts on it, I buy whatever works better for my car and me...

Should be pretty easy to make the brackets like RTS made them, if you have access to a welder and some round tube... Its a pretty simplistic design but works...

I would mount the shifter handle first, If your driver likes the RTS handle.. I would buy that then and make a bracket so that it is in a comfortable location for your driver... After the handle is mounted I would then route the cable how you want so that you can make a bracket to fasten it to the frame and have the proper angle to the new shifter location...

And I would say that's it......

Would mounting just a RTS shiifter do thr trick ???
Thanks for all the input , you guys are the best.

Fact is, it is very easy to change direction of shifts! If shift cable attaches above where handle mounts to frame, modify to mount below. Either that or do the reverse cable thing running the cable rearward instead of forward! Either way you may have to do some slight alterations with tabs, etc. Probably easiest would be just to adapt the handle so you could go either direction per driver!
