Paul Lotier Jr. gets dominant SpeedSTR win at Selinsgrove Speedway.

The Paul Long Memorial event was held Sunday evening at the Selinsgrove Speedway with perfect weather for everyone to enjoy. The Weikel Racewear SpeedSTR series made their debut at the 1/2 mile high banked oval after coming off the 5/8 mile pavement track at the Oswego Speedway for "Classic" weekend. Two super high speed tracks this Labor Day weekend, one dirt and one pavement showed the diversity and the abilities of these race cars and drivers.

The evenings feature event at Selinsgrove Speedway would be set by the STR's competing in the Simpson Shootout in which Steve Hicks from Doylestown, PA would bring his USA 1 home to victory, followed by Paul Lotier Jr. from Lebanon, PA, and Richie Tobias driving the Evernham 98.

The STR's would be led to the feature events green flag by pole sitter Steve Hicks, but it was Paul Lotier Jr. in the Toby Jr. Racing 17 rocketing around the top three starters from his fourth place position to the lead coming off of turn two.

Hicks and Friday evening's, Oswego Speedway's "Classic" winner Willy Evernham of Mooresville, NC in the famed number 9 would battle for the second spot. Point leader Nick Pecko, Doug Rose, and Billy VanInwegen would battle for third, as the events only caution flag flew on lap three.

When the field went back to green Hicks had nothing for Lotier Jr's 17, so the battle was on for second. The feature event was filled with wheel to wheel action for spots 2 through 5 as Lotier Jr. continued to extend his lead. First it was Pecko of Vandling, PA taking his NEP Wireless number 42 by Hicks and W. Evernham for second as VanInwegen of Sparrow Bush, NY solidified the top 5 getting by Rose who would later settle into 6th. VanInwegen went to work on W. Evernham and Hicks for third as second place Pecko would take a push entering turn 3 and W. Evernham would go back to second as VanInwegen took over 4th. Then Pecko would draw along side of W. Evernham only to have the 23 of VanInwegen go around the 42 of Pecko. Hicks was looking for room on the bottom to get back into 3rd but laps would run out.

There was so much action for the 2nd place position for the last 10 laps between these four cars with slide jobs, high side, and low side passes on the spacious 1/2 mile oval that the crowed was just ecstatic and on their feet as Paul Lotier Jr. powered his way to the checker flags followed by W. Evernham, VanInwegen, Pecko, and Hicks.

Lotier Jr. would be greeted in victory lane by a Selinsgrove Speedway 12 time feature winner, his Dad, Paul Lotier Sr. This would be the younger Lotier's first feature win in the Weikel Racewear STR series.

Notes:

Willy Evernham was the winner of the Labor Day weekend Dirt/Asphalt Challenge sponsored by K&N High Performance Filters. Evernham was impressive all weekend long on both surfaces, winning during "Classic" weekend at Oswego Speedway (pavement) followed by a solid second place finish at the Paul Long Memorial event at Selinsgrove Speedway (dirt). Evernham commented "It's amazing how competitive and how well these cars handle on both surfaces simply by changing just springs, shocks, and tires. Where else can you get this, for these costs? My uncle wanted me to get more experience and this series sure has provided that for me, I want to thank everyone at Speedway Entertainment."

Ray Evernham was also in competition in the Erin Crocker number 19, coming home with a solid 7th place finish after starting 10th.

After 10 events there has only been one, 2 time winner (Nick Pecko) and 8 other winners. This series is so even, anyone can win each and every week.
