September 5th Path Valley.. Murphy takes the win in a surprise appearance with the Sidewinders.
Murphy came, Murphy saw and Murphy conquered.
In only his 3rd ever appearance in a Sidewinder Sprint, and his first appearance in 2008, Ben Murphy showed his skill to take a convincing win in the twenty lap Sidewinder Sprint feature.
Subbing for an injured Rick Hench (still suffering from a back injury) in the Henchcraft house car with Rick on the wrenches, Ben made a fantastic start from his 7th starting to position to take the lead before a lap was even completed. From there it was all Murphy with Morrison taking 2nd and a great performance from Tim Mertz for 3rd after starting 10th.
Murphy was exhausted as he pulled into victory lane and took his time exiting the car before explaining “That really takes a lot out of you, it is more physical than the 600’s. I must thank Rick Hench for the fantastic set up. The car was super fast straight out of the trailer.”
Later in the pits, when Rick was asked why he hasn’t been able to put together such an impressive performance in his own mount, a jubilant Rick Hench explained, “As far as a driver goes, I am sure that I am well passed my prime, however as far as a micro sprint chassis manufacturer and crew chief, I am just getting warmed up” Rick continued offering “There is no doubt that Ben Murphy is one of the finest talents in micro sprint racing. It’s a real pleasure having him steer the Henchcraft Racing Products Sidewinder Sprints house car into victory lane tonight”. Rick also explained that he still has a limited number of openings in his rental car(s) for the rest of the season, and that interested drivers need to call (717) 567-2300 ASAP to secure their seat as there are only 4 races left in the 2008 season.
With the rain out Saturday at Trail-Way, the Hyper cup now comes down to the final 4 races with only 5 points separating Tim Mertz’s Suzuki powered RTS and Ryan Greth’s Yamaha powered Hyper.
Parity report: Once again the top 3 cars all had different engines. Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki filled the podium. Also the top 3 cars were different chassis manufacturers, Henchcraft, Hyper and RTS.

This Week’s Question;
Q. With the Sidewinders having the Labor Day long weekend off to regroup. The next race will be a double header weekend with Path Valley (9/05) and Trail-Way (9/06). This begs the question….Can someone sweep the two nights?
A. With the remnants of hurricane Hanna settling over Central PA all day Saturday, the double header didn’t quite work our as planned after Trail-Way was forced to cancel the Saturday night portion of the weekend’s action.
