September 19th Path Valley; Tim Mertz takes the win and extends his lead in the Hyper Cup.

With yet another perfect racing surface, Tim Mertz made great use of his front row starting position to take the win over Ryan Greth with Jason Morrison in 3rd.

This week’s result mirrors the current Championship leader board with all three podium finishers in an identical position in the chase for the coveted Hyper Cup.

In victory lane Tim said “A special thanks must go to Path Valley for providing a great racing surface tonight. I was lucky to be able to take advantage of my front row starting position and to have Ryan come home in second is keeping the excitement in the point’s battle. My team really has our RTS working fantastic at Path Valley. I have to give a lot of thanks to our team made up of, Dad, Ron and Joe. None of this would be possible without the support of Mertz's Moving, Allison Door Sales, Guhl Motors and RTS chassis.”

Jason Morrison made multiple attempts in the last 3 laps to pass Greth on the low side, but Greth held the cushion to take 2nd.

The question on the night….Where was the full moon ?? The Sidewinder Sprints managed 3 flips for the night with Rohan Beasley and Gary Funck performing a double flip in the first heat, and then in the feature, Stan Fleming ended upside down after contact with Funck.

With Beasley out for the night with extensive damage, he put his time to good use with the radar gun in turn one.

For those that have always wondered, here are the results from the main events for the open wheel classes;

270’s – 63MPH
600’s – 69MPH
Sidewinders – 78MPH
305 Sprints – 79MPH

Next week is the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race at Trail-Way Speedway which is sure to raise the ante. Trail-Way is providing $700 to win for the Sidewinder Sprints and an extra $300 is being provided by Sidewinder Sprints / Hyper Racing to round it off to an even $1000 to win. This will be a great night of open wheel racing and one not to be missed.
