Stockham King of the Mountain
and King of the Can
Chris Stockham, driver of the #44 National Parts Peddler car, wanted to have a great weekend. He considers Thunder Mountain his home track since he is so close to home. Chris has always been strong and hope it would last. Then he looked towards Sundays show at Penn Can
Speedway and knew he ran strong at that track also.
A great weekend would be on tap for the Hoosier Tire 600 modifieds. The recent rain outs would put the series to Thunder Mountain on Oct.3rd and Penn Can Oct.4th . Twenty-seven cars signed in for Saturdays events. All would qualify thru heats races due to time restraints so no consi would be run.
Substituting in the 4jr of Butch Getz would be Doug Borger. Orlando Hornblower would pilot the rental car and BJ Scherff would put the #84 of Ken Loux thru the paces. BJ gained 8 positions and Orlando would keep his position thru all 20 laps.
Stockham would work his way thru lap traffic from his 11th starting to cross the line followed by the #2 of Brian Mady. Brian started 14th and worked his way to the rear bumper of Stockham but ran out of time. Both drivers put on a great show as they both dodged lap traffic and earned their top positions.
Pulling into Penn Can Speedway on Sunday with 22 cars for some great fall weather racing. Many drivers watched the track closely since the sun would play an important part in todays race. Butch Getz, driver of the 4jr Big Creek Concrete, looked to make it a three peat for the year. All the drivers knew he would be the car to beat. Stockham had the momentum for the previous nights victory and used that to his advantage. Starting in the 10th position, he worked his way to the front and by lap 15 saw the car of Getz. Taking the lead early Butch had to hold off his teammate Tyler Haydt. Unfortunately haydt drove the car into turn four to hard and would bring out the caution. This would be the break Chris needed and set up a five lap shootout. Running side by side for the next 4 laps saw the crowd on their feet so has not to miss the action. Coming out of turn for Chris made the move to the outside with Butch taking the inside. Stockham had the momentum coming off the corner but getz would not give and tried to make a move coming into turn three. Stockham would not be outdone and took the checkers to sweep the weekend. Ryan Kunkle, first year driver of the 77, brought his powerplant over the checkers in third place. He recorded his highest ever finish and was all smiles in tech. He wants to thank all his crew and sponsors for all the help to get him there. Brian Mady topped off his weekend by having another great run, Starting in the 21st spot and crossing the checkers 6th earned him the hard charger for both nights. It feels awesome to be on track after the year we had, he stated and looks forward to the remainder of the season.
Doug Borger wants to thank both Thunder Mountain and Penn Can Speedways for the invitation to run on their biggest shows of the year and looks forward to the 2009 season.
Next up for the Hoosier Tires 600 mods will be Oct.18th for the final Thunder on the Hill series for 2008. Grandview speedway will host this ever popular event. Please check out their website www.thunderonthehillracingseries.com for times and drivers announcements.
