GEORGE LOUX WINS HARD FOUGHT BATTLE AT KUTZTOWN FAIR SPEEDWAY
When the Xcel Chassis modifieds pulled into Kutztown on Aug. 18th the excitement grows since all the drivers want to win during fair week. When you start the night off pulling pill 53 out of 55 the only way to go is up and that’s exactly what George wanted to do. Since he was starting deep in the field, it was decided to put Tyler Ross in the seat and run the sportsman class also. One car and two divisions can be a tough night but add in Chuck Schultz as the celebrity driver and you have your work cut out for you.
The Campbell Supply Co. of Edison NJ sponsored #48g of Loux started last in the mod heat and George wheeled it to a 3rd place finish. After the redraw Loux went from starting in the back to pole sitter for the feature event. “I have always wanted to win here since our first appearance a couple of years ago and track position is key. Richie Hitzler gave me one heck of a battle and then Aaron Bowes. When you race hard like that for all 20 laps, taking the win is that much sweeter”, explained Loux after the nights events, “ I can’t thank my dad, Ken, enough for all the help and work he does to get me on the track along with Campbell Supply and L&L CARQUEST of Avondale, Pa. Without them, I wouldn’t be here”.
Justin Schraden, Nick Mady and Ryan Kunkle started the night with heat race wins over a 26 car field and with a strong band of storms on the horizon Doug Borger decided to not have a B-main and everybody qualify. Just has the 600 modifieds took the green the first flash of lightning could be seen in the distance so the pace was set. Could Loux hold off Hitzler or would Mother Nature take it all?
Bull ring racing at it’s best would see racing up front, middle and the back of the field. After 2 early cautions, the racing would begin to play out. Loux and Justin Schraden led the field until coming out of turn two; Schraden would climb the back wall and put the car side ways. His quick reaction saved the car from going over but would see an early end to the evening. Richie Hitzler, Alec Bartholomew, Aaron Bowes and Nick Mady rounded up the top five on the restart but wouldn’t finish there. Mady watched Bowes and Bartholomew run side by side for five laps before Bowes would make the pass on Bartholomew. Mean while Hitzler would edge his nose under Loux for almost 15 laps only to lose ground coming out of the turn 2 and looping the car. Gotta give the kid credit for driving his heart out. The final restart would set a classic battle with the top four. Bowes looked to clear Loux as Mady and Bartholomew dueled it out until the final lap.
Coming to turn one Mady set the car to the high side and gained enough momentum to come door to door with Bartholomew. Bowes had to check up after trying to go inside of George giving Bartholomew and Mady just the shake up they would need. Meanwhile during all this, the top three were right on the bumper of Loux going into turn 3 on the white flag lap. Loux would keep it nailed to the bottom and Mady went back to the outside completing the pass on Bartholomew to take third. Bowes would settle for second as George Loux crossed the checkers for his second career win.
Victory Lane would have to wait as drivers were changed and the celebrity race hit the track. Nate Christman, driving the #10 of Andy Ressler, along with Chuck Schultz, Doug Manmiller, Dan Erb , Ray Swinehart, Alex Tonkin, Pete Knappenberger and Kurt Spotts put on a great show for the fans. Just has the modified feature was decided on the last lap so was the race has Nate Christman would come out on top.
Doug Borger was pleased with the show and glad the rain stayed away. “Right before feature time, I was told about the band of weather that was coming. The guys did a great job going from driver to driver and division to division to move the show along. When I saw the first lightning I never thought we would get the show in but not a drop of rain fell. I need to thank the teams of Pasco Tomaino, Ryan Suchon, Kermit Horning, Chad Mullen, Joe Fanelli, Andy Ressler and George Loux for the use of the cars for the celebrity race. It was definitely a quick turnaround tonight.”
The Xcel Chassis 600 modifieds tour division will be making their first appearance at Susquehanna Speedway, affectionaly known as suskie, this Saturday Aug. 20th for a fast and furious night of racing.
