October 5th Trail Way Speedway – Kevin Gobrecht Memorial; Dwayne Gutshall came, he saw and he conquered !

Dwayne Gutshall used all of his Trail-Way experience and a great pill draw for a front row starting position to strike first blood in his first ever start in Sidewinder Sprint competition. Starting from the pole, Dwayne had 1000 dollars worth of reasons to try to hold off the marauding pack.

With the defending Sidewinder Sprints 2008 Gobrecht Memorial winner, Jesse Snyder starting 2nd, Ben Murphy starting 4th and the defending 2008 600cc Gobrecht Memorial winner , Ryan Greth starting in 5th, his work was going to be cut out for him.

Managing to lead every lap, Gutshall made it look easy on the slick daytime like surface to claim the win in the all important Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race. In victory lane Dwyane went on to say “Being my first race with the Sidewinder Sprints and taking the win in such a prestigious event as the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial with my new Yamaha powered Predator Chassis means a great deal. Kevin was such a fantastic racer and it’s a real honor to win this event in his name. Starting position was important today, and I must give thanks to my sponsors Memtec Services Inc., Predator Racecraft and Hyper Fuel Injection.”

Controversy reigned after the feature with both the 2nd and 3rd place cars of Ben Murphy and Jesse Snyder disqualified for technical infringements. (Murphy was 2lbs light at the scale, Snyder did not have an approved firewall or fuel shut off valve)

Our best wishes go out to Art Stephan who crashed the 3R car heavily on the front straight during the feature event. Later feeling worse for wear with the adrenalin rush wearing off, Art was hospitalized with multiple fractures. Thankfully Art is back at home now recuperating. Art is already planning on the needed repairs and is determined to be ready for opening day in 2009.

Special mention must go out to Steve Owings for his hard charging drive from 23rd to 6th. Obviously all the experience that Steve gains racing his 358 sprint car on Friday nights at Trail-Way was put to good use in the Jared Hudson owned 07 Hyper.

The chase for the Hyper Cup is all coming down to the last two races this weekend. With the double header at Path Valley this week, the expected high car counts and only 10 points separating the top two teams of Tim Mertz and Ryan Greth, it will be an old fashioned shootout for the championship and one not to be missed!

Congratulations must go to John Wentz from Hanover Pa for winning the 2008 Hyper raffle car !
Many thanks to Donna Gobrecht for helping with the drawing!
