Need to get this little problem figured out.

I have a 2007 Hyper, and for some odd reason, it has been slapping the chain soo hard it blows it apart. It's happened two-three times this year, and it has only started in the last half of the season.

Our drive train setup hasn't changed at all and we haven't changed our chain tension (and we test it under load by standing on the left nerf bar).

Any clues?

Did you replace any of the sprockets at the 1/2 way of season? I replaced my rear sprocket one time and noticed the chain binding on the spocket. I figured that the outer corners at the point of each tooth was too sharp. I filed an ease all around both sides of the sprocket and it helped quieted it down and run smoother. other things is the chain is too loose or the tensioner isn't right, like a weak spring or binding. You need to replace the wheel every now and then. It gets worn and rides crooked after time. hope it helps.

get the new tensioner block/birdcage setup from Hyper. You'll want to wear in the block about 1/4" into the gear. And with the car in race trim (driver not needed), you can run about 1/2"-1" of slack without slap. I can get some pictures of our setup for you if you need. It's hard to explain, but the new tensioner does the job. I have struggled for 2 years with our Hypers and chain slap. Finally have it nailed down.

Nope, not until we blew apart our first chain and than only that gear was replaced. We had a similar problem as far the chain binding on the sprocket once, but that was resolved and never occurred again. Our car doesn't have a traditional tensioner if you will, it's just the block mounted to a bracket, it's what Hyper is using on their newer cars.

Do they have a new version of it or is it the same thing that would be on the 2007 that was made in the last half of last year? I am only asking because I am curious if they need replacing every so often or if it a new design.

Yeah, that is about what we have, maybe a little looser - not alot. But thanks though.

Ok, i thought you were running without the block. I'll get you a picture of our cut block. Also, how inline is the engine sprocket with the axle sprocket? you can use a 3 ft straitedge to line them up. we always set ours with the rear axle on blocks and use the panhard to adjust.

Yes, I am using the block.

Going by eye, they seem pretty straight - I can check it with a straight edge tomorrow though (too dang cold in NY to go outside right now).

you have a bad torsion bar or to soft of a bar in the left rear... my buddy had the same problem...
