June 29th. Path Valley

Greth takes the win and the Hyper Cup point lead on Keystone Siding night at Path Valley

Is it summer yet? The rain continues to haunt Path Valley and Friday night was no different. Late afternoon rain left the track heavy and narrow for the nights racing action.

The heats were a wide open and steer left affair with little to no passing. The feature on the other hand, although still conducted on the narrowest of racing surfaces, proved to be no challenge for Ryan Greth in his Yamaha powered Hyper chassis #71. Greth, by virtue of winning the previous visit to Path Valley started out of the twelfth starting spot and made short work getting into 3rd. At that time, Tim Mertz in his Suzuki powered RTS chassis, had used his front row starting position to the best possible advantage only to have his car stop on the back straight on lap number 9. Rich Halter, having his best run so far in his Yamaha powered Stallard chassis, took over the lead at the restart. Greth lining up 3rd, behind Jason Morrison was able to take over the lead on lap 10 and was never headed on his way to the checkered flag.

Greth, by virtue of his win, regains the lead in the chase for the coveted Hyper Cup and had this to say following his feature win, “ I would like to thank Keystone Siding for their support of the nights racing and Path Valley for their efforts in getting the show in last night after the rain. Most racks would have given up and with the rising fuel costs we really appreciate the extra efforts so the night’s racing is not lost. Thanks to my Dad, Barry for another great setup on our Hyper Racing, Yamaha powered Hyper chassis. He was able to free my car up enough on the tacky racing surface to enable us to come through the field from my 12th place starting position.” Upon learning of his contingency “Hard Charger” win and regaining the points lead, Ryan said “ It is really great to have companies like the “1Hard Charger” sponsor, The Workshop Yamaha (www.workshopwelovesnow.com) come on board to help. It does make a huge difference receiving the bonus awards. Having Hyper Racing investing in this class with the naming rights sponsorship enables all the competitors to benefit from the outstanding points fund. This is the only class that has 3 championships and points funds for the drivers to compete for.”

Mystery Driver, Stan Fleming made his long awaited debut with Sidewinder Sprints and put his previous 358 Sprint experience to good use as he took his debut heat win. Stan had a little help from his friends in the feature as he looped the Saner Motorsports Yamaha powered #17S Hyper chassis in turn 4 and was forced to fight his way back from the rear to finish with a creditable 6th place.

June 30th. Trail-Way Speedway
With heats completed on a fantastic multi-groove racing surface, unfortunately the rain came and forced the postponement of the nights racing action.

Trail-Way will make a decision Monday on if the Sidewinders are required to return on the Tuesday night 600cc Pa Speed Week rain-date, or since all of their qualifying is complete, if they will be scheduled for double features on their next visit.

Only another week until the Sidewinder Sprints join the $10K to win Super 600 Showdown (www.super600showdown.com) race at Lanco on July 5th. The Sidewinders will compete in their own 20 lap winged feature event before taking the wings off to compete in the 20 lap Sidewinder / 600cc wingless challenge race.
