Path Valley Speedway Park FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Murphy Wins 600 Sprints Speed Week at Path Valley
Jake Murphy roared out of sixth place to win the 30 lap 600 Sprints Speed Week feature Monday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park, one of seven races in 8 days for the top class of microsprints.
His brother Ben finished second in the field of 91 600 Sprints.
Murphy charged into second place at the finish of lap three and then set his sites on Oklahoma star Tyler Reddick and after a lap ten caution Murphy used the soft and smooth outside groove to go wheel to wheel with Reddick on lap 15 and complete the pass at the end of lap 16, just before a caution forced a full restart. Reddick took back the lead at the start of lap 17 but another caution before the lap was finished put Murphy back in front for another single file restart.
This time Murphy was not caught flat footed as he took off to lead the rest of the race. A final caution on lap 27 let his brother Ben pull alongside but he never completed the pass and the two Murphy brothers went to victory lane together to collect the $3000 first prize and trophy from sponsor J&K Salvage.
The only drawback to a fabulous night of racing was an hour of rain that forced a two hour delay in the program, but Race Director John Winsett had prepared for the chance of showers with a track that was returned to excellent racing condition with help from all the drivers present. “The racing was tremendously fast and the drivers were just great and there were even no bad accidents through ten heat races, four consi features and the main event,” Winsett said.
Tim Mertz passed Rohan Beasley in lap eight for the lead and then used lapped cars from lap 11 on to take the win in the Sidewinders. The front five were Mertz, Jason Morrison, Brent Marks, Ryan Greth and Beasley and the heat wins went to Beasley and Aaron Spahr. Sean McAndrews led all the way in the 270 Sprints. The front five finishers were McAndrews, Stolz, Jim Still, Tim Mertz, and Brian Marriott, and the heat winners were McAndrews and Dave Grube.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike.
