DICELY LEADS EVERY LAP OF SUPER 600
SHOWDOWN;
RUTHERFORD FINISHES SECOND, BUT WINS 270
CHALLENGE;

Hanover, PA (5/24/09) – Mike Dicely ended a perfect weekend by
claiming the $5,780 top prize in the Hyper Racing Super 600 Showdown at
Trail-Way Speedway Sunday night.
The win capped off the three-day
“Microracing.com Spring Nationals,” the biggest weekend in the history of the
McSherrystown oval.
After coming from eight starting spot to win
Saturday’s preliminary feature, Dicely won the 10-lap dash to put him on the
pole for the main event, and led all 50 laps.
“As much as I like Mike
Rutherford, I’m glad he didn’t win this one!” exclaimed a jubilant Dicely after
doing a wing dance in victory lane, “It was a long day, but we had a lot of
fun.”
“I started on the pole,” added Dicely, one of the main sponsors for
the event, “But I think with last night’s win and today’s dash win, we earned
it.”
Dicely’s ton of experience on rubbered-up tracks showed. Though
Rutherford came from sixth to finish second, he was never able to seriously
challenge the owner of Hyper Racing.
Though he didn’t win, Rutherford’s
second-place finish ended a good day which included a win in the RTS 270
Challenge earlier in the evening.
Third through fifth in the 50-lap
Showdown were 11th-starting Heath Hehnly, Shane Lewis, and Tim
Dietz.
Rutherford started on the outside row of the RTS 270
Challenge, but followed polesitter Brian Marriott for the first eight laps
before grabbing the lead for good in lapped traffic on lap nine. From there,
Rutherford blew away the rest of the field to score the $2,090
win.
Sixth-starting Todd Hoover slid under Marriott for second following
a 25th lap restart and ran second over the second of the race. Marriott crossed
third, with Sean McAndrew fourth and 11th-starting Richie Hartman crossing
fifth.
Jessie Snyder scored the $1,000 win in the 30-lap 1000cc Viper
Chassis “Sidewinder” feature after starting third, grabbing the lead from Chad
Hough on lap 10, and leading the rest of the way. It was Snyder’s second win in
as many nights after Shawn Seifert’s disqualification on Saturday.
Mark
Strickler crossed second, with Sean McAndrew, Joe Robertson, and Hough
completing the top five, the only cars to finish on the lead
lap.
Winner of the S&S Speedways Slingshots was Cody Kline, who
started on the pole and led the entire 20 laps. Brett Bieber crossed second,
with Kyle Hieber, Shannon Smith, and Lucas Schott rounding out the top
five.
Kyle Hieber came back to claim the win in the
Tobias Speedway Entertainment SpeedSTRs feature, leading start to finish in the
20-lap event. Jeff Gallup, Doug Sherwood, Nick Pecko, and Jason Geesaman were
second through fifth.
Ryan Higgs was victorious in the 20-600ccXcel
modifieds. He started on the pole but followed fellow front-row starter Nick
Mady for the first 13 laps before making the race-winning pass under the 77X in
turns three and four of lap 14. Eric Whitby got by Mady on lap 18 for second,
with Mady settling for third.
Tyler Haydt came from 19th starting spot to
second before contact with another car dropped him to fourth for the finish.
Tyler Bartik crossed fifth.
